Adolescents with Opioid Use Disorder

Adolescents with Opioid Use Disorder

November 9, 2021

It’s hard not to feel concern about teens who use opioids: their stage in life, brain development, and social lives makes them vulnerable to naïvely using strong opioids and experiencing overdose.

In this episode, Paul Barry, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Clinical Trainer at the UW’s AIMS Center (Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences), helps us take a look at what’s happening with adolescents who use opioids and the treatment options available. Paul highlights the joy of working with youth, and together we wonder “what are we waiting for?” in terms of expanding effective and evidence-based treatment for adolescents with an opioid use disorder.

It’s a fun, joyful, and optimistic conversation about a difficult topic.
